NYPD Commissioner Bratton Honors his Stanley Cup Finals Bet with LAPD Chief Beck

NYPD Commissioner William Bratton honors his Stanley Cup Finals bet with LAPD Chief Charlie Beck! Congratulations to all, especially the 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings! Go Kings Go!

On Saturday morning, Bratton signaled his intent to honor the bet. He tweeted a photo of Katz’s Deli in New York and tagged Beck’s Twitter account.

“Do you take your pastrami sandwich with or without mustard? Congrats!” Bratton tweeted.

Beck’s response, after telling Bratton he was looking forward to having lunch again soon, was to tweet a picture of L.A.’s most-revered pastrami sandwich, the Number 19 at Langer’s Deli.

The sandwich – tender, hand-sliced pastrami, cool Russian dressing, crisp cole slaw and Swiss cheese between two slices of pillow-soft, crunchy-crusted twice-baked rye bread – is a favorite of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Sandwich King Jeff Mauro Names Langer’s Pastrami on Rye his #1 USA Sandwich

All of us at Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant are thrilled that Food Network’s Sandwich King Jeff Mauro has named our pastrami on rye as his #1 sandwich in the entire United States in a recent Yahoo Travel article.

This is my benchmark for all great sandwiches. The country’s best house-made pastrami combined with the country’s best rye bread. Order it hand-cut with a schmear of some deli mustard, and leave it be. With a side of extra-crispy fries and three ice teas, this is my favorite meal in the world. It’s simplicity at its finest, and in a world of over-stuffed, over-complicated sandwiches, Langer’s keeps it real with nothing but craftsmanship, history, and a dab of mustard.

LAPastrami.com: Langer’s Deli Review

We’ve discovered a great website for fans of hot pastrami called LAPastrami.com – and their review of Langer’s Deli is amazing:

The Pastrami club’s first jaunt was to Langer’s in November of 2011. We have regretted it ever since because basically nothing else in Los Angeles can compare to their overwhelming pastramaganza. Their “best of the best” Pastrami sandwich was “the greatest pastrami ever, in the world” with “amazing melt-in-your-mouth double baked rye. Crispy and soft at the same time!”

FamilyVacationHub.com: 10 Los Angeles Classic Restaurants

FamilyVacationHub.com has assembled a great list of ten LA-area classic restaurants that are family-friendly locations, and they lead off with Langer’s Delicatessen-Restaurant:

The reason Langer’s has made it all these years, is its delicious deli food, which is not easy to come by in Los Angeles. In my honest opinion, I think their Pastrami sandwich is the best I have ever had and I grew up on Deli food. The Pastrami is very tender and their twice baked rye bread is crunchy on the crust and soft as can be on the bread. If you are not a purist (pastrami and deli mustard), they have a fantastic Pastrami sandwich (#19) with Cole Slaw, Swiss cheese and Russian style dressing. Add in a side of Potato Pancakes and a Cream Soda and you are set. Langer’s menu offers up a large variety of traditional Delicatessen fare, so everyone in the family should find something to their liking.
